Be Amazed by the Name of Jesus
When we have a connection to someone with a name associated with success or power or influence, we sometimes like to tell others that we “know” or are acquainted with that person…even if the connection is a thread at best. Why? We feel that perhaps it increases our significance, others’ perception of us, or even our own influence.
Occasionally, it’s on the opposite end of the spectrum…we do NOT want to be associated with someone’s name. We feel that our connection to that person will somehow lessen others’ estimation of us. We are afraid of the judgement, criticism, or wrath that may come our way because of that person’s reputation and choices.
Neither of these scenarios is unfamiliar in the New Testament when it comes to the name of Jesus—amazed by the name (Luke 10:17)…fear of the name (Luke 22:54-62), but there is one thing that cannot be denied about the name of Jesus—there is Power in the name of Jesus.
The Word proclaims that His name is higher than any other name: “Therefore God exalted him to the highest placeand gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11 It confirms that we are saved by that name: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
The Word says that miracles and healing are done in the name of Jesus: “Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” Acts 4:30 In fact, Jesus Himself declares in Mark 16:17 that we will be able to cast out demons and speak in new tongues in His name: “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues…” Jesus also affirms that we can ask anything in His name: “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:13,14
Today, be amazed by the name of Jesus. Do not fear association with His name. Remember who you are—a child of God saved because of that name (Romans 10:9—13). Remember what can be done—miracles, wonders and healing because of that name. And remember, requests can be made in that name. Indeed, all things that are possible in that name. Why? Because there IS Power in the name of JESUS to the glory of God the Father!
