Enjoying what we are Created to do
Not too long ago I had the opportunity to visit the beach. The sun was setting on the horizon as I walked down to the shore with my family. Brilliant, golden shades mixed with rich oranges and soft pinks, purples and blues. The ocean was a glittering reflection of the sunset. The waves were a crash of thunder in my ears then a soft soothing rush of gentle gurgles and bubbles as they surged the shore and then receded into the depths.
And then the most wonderful surprise, an unexpected gift. In the distance, there were dolphins—one, then two, then three—swimming, peeking up from the waters, then splashing down again, then breaking the water with a jump and then down again. They sped along mounting waves and leaped into the air. And it was then that it hit me…they were having fun. They were genuinely having fun. Unmindful of our little group, they played and enjoyed themselves…just like their Creator had intended them to do and in doing that simple thing, which they were created to do, they were honoring their Lord and thus praising Him.
Take a look at the following scriptures: “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.” Revelation 4:11 “O LORD, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions—this great and wide sea, in which are innumerable teeming things, living things both small and great.” Psalm 104:24,25 “Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and all its fullness; let the field be joyful, and all that is in it.” Psalm 96:11-12a “Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all the depths…” Psalm 148:7
God created all things. All things belong to Him. The earth and all that is in it—including the dolphins—are to be glad and praise Him. The dolphins I saw were doing their job; they were praising their Creator by simply enjoying what they were created to do and finding great pleasure in it.
Can we say the same? We, too, are God’s creation, created to live and breathe and enjoy and praise. But do we? Or…is life too busy? Circumstances too hard? Do we feel too reserved or feel too silly to laugh and play and enjoy? Are we too tired to honor our Creator in that way?
Today, let’s take a lesson from the dolphins. Let’s enjoy our Creator, God Almighty, and the life that He has given us. Let’s rejoice! Let’s laugh! Let’s honor Him. Let’s take a moment today and simply enjoy the abundant life He has given us.
