Get Excited!
There is something about the process of preparing for an event—a wedding, a birth, even company coming for a visit… There are the flutterings of anticipation that build inside, the excitement, the nervousness, the sense of urgency, trying to make sure that everything is in its place. There is an eagerness, an earnest desire, to make sure things are just right, all the while intensely longing and impatiently waiting for that which we are anticipating to take place.
It should be the same when we consider the return of Christ. The return of Jesus is not just some fairytale story from the Word of God simply shared for our enjoyment. It is not this far off and illusive thing that we ignore until sometime in the future. The return of Jesus should be a very real and anticipated event in the heart of every believer. Can you imagine what it will be like…to see our King of kings and our Lord of lords come to take us Home with Him? (John 14:2,3) In the words of this generation: “It will be epic!” There will be nothing like it!
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” I Thessalonians 4:16,17
If such an epic event is in our future, should we not be all a bustle with activity and preparations? Matthew 24:42,44 says: “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come…So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
Romans 13:11,12 declares: “And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”
Today, let’s get excited! Our King is coming soon. Let us get ready, eagerly anticipating His Return. Let us repent and put aside “deeds of darkness” and let us “put on the armor of light”, pursuing Him and His righteousness because the time is near when He will take us Home to be with Him.
