God is for You
The other day, I paused for a few moments and stood at our front door looking out the window into our yard. Suddenly and unexpectedly, a light breeze high up in the trees got caught up in the branches and caused a shower of tiny cottonwood tufts to come cascading to the ground. The soft pieces slowly and gently made their decent, carefree and unhurried. It was breathtaking and enchanting.
A thought came to me: What if this is what blessings from Heaven looked like? What if this profusion of glowing little puffs represented blessings coming down from the Father, beautifully landing at their appointed place and at their appointed time? Wow! There were so many! And there seemed to be no end to them! I wondered…if we could see the blessings descending from our Father, might it look like this? God’s Word is clear that there are blessings for His people, individualized gifts ready and waiting. In fact, James notes: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17
In an instant, my mind went to the blessing in Numbers 6:24-26: “The Lord bless youand keep you;the Lord make his face shine on youand be gracious to you;the Lord turn his face toward youand give you peace.” It was then that the lyrics of a popular worship song (based on this blessing) began to weave their way into my head. As I got to the part of the song that says, “He is for you,” my heart melted and my eyes teared-up. I desperately needed the reminder that day.
Sometimes it is easy to feel the weight of life pressing in, and it is easy to forget this simple truth so clearly laid out in God’s Word again and again: God is for us. How often does He speak of His love forus, His plans for us, and His blessings?
Today, perhaps you need to be reminded (like I did) that God is for you; that He is showering His blessings upon you and will keep you; that He will turn toward you and look upon you and be gracious to you; and that He WILL give you peace.
