Glow sticks do not glow straight out of the box. In order to make a glow stick glow, you must break up the inner substance by bending the stick until the insides have cracked and released the glowing chemical. At the River Glo the other night, I was helping to place a mechanism at the end of glow sticks so that the ends could be attached. Unintentionally, I kept breaking the inside a little. I noticed that the tiny inner breakage released some of the inner glow…and it made me wonder, do I glow when I’m broken? Or is what comes out dim and murky?
We all reach a breaking point with certain situations, circumstances, people,…but when that happens, what comes out of us? What pours forth from the inner most parts of our soul? What do we bleed? Do we bleed the glow of Jesus Christ? Second Corinthians 4 mentions that we will be hard pressed, perplexed, persecuted, and struck down (also says those things are not the end of us) and that, “We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” 2 Corinthians 4:10 So what is revealed in us in our brokenness?
Let’s examine ourselves today. If what comes out when the pressure is on is muddy, toxic or something completely ineffective that lacks the glow of Jesus Christ, ask for His forgiveness…ask Him for a clean heart (Psalm 51). Allow His word and His spirit to wash over you and cleanse you.
