Sometimes we are content to know just a little bit about God, just enough to make it through a day. A little revelation here and a little insight there is nice and refreshing and most definitely helpful, but we are pretty much content to tuck those tid-bits into the box of our lives, squeezing God and our limited knowledge of Him into a compartment next to our plans, our routines, our goals, etc… We just kind of let God know which section He fits into, and then we close it up and put a nice little bow on our box and call it good. But…what if that’s not the way it works?
What if there’s more? What if God is much bigger than our box? What if….wait for it….what if He doesn’t fit into a box at all? Isaiah 40:21-26 enlightens us as to the magnitude of God:
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? …He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,… He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing… ‘To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?’ says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”
Today, if you have been attempting to contain God in the confining box of your life, forgetting that He is the Creator of the universe, give Him some room to walk around in your life. You may find that the more space that you give Him to work inside and outside of your box, the more peace, rest, comfort and life you experience, and, according to the rest of Isaiah 40, He will bring you strength and hope, too.
