Rely on God’s Character
My brother, sister-in-law, and niece came for a visit not too long ago and brought their sweet little Yorkie Terrier with them. This tiny little bundle of fur is very smart and on the last day of their visit, she very acutely and accurately sensed that it was time for their family to depart. While they packed up the car, Coco (the little Yorkie), began to cry, fearing that she would somehow be forgotten or be left behind. Although she has never been forgotten or left behind before, they said she does this every time, frightened that she will not be remembered.
I thought about that. She repeatedly struggles with that fear though there is no foundation for it. At every turn she is cherished, loved, provided for and protected, yet she still cannot not seem to wrap her mind around the assurance that is provided through the word of her master, her previous experiences, or her master’svery character and nature. And is it not the same with us?
The Father continually cherishes us, loves us, provides for us and protects us, and yet we so often succumb to the fear that the Father has somehow forgotten us…or will forget us. Though our experiences with Him speak to His faithfulness, we still tend to question whether or not He has left us alone to face our situations and challenges on our own.
Take a look at these scriptures: “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 “So do not fear, for I am with you;do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you;I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 “David also said to Solomon his son, ‘Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished…’” I Chronicles 28:20 “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20b
Today, let’s rely on God’s character. Let’s remember our experiences with Him. No matter what our situation is or how we may be feeling, God has never forgotten us and He will never leave us alone. Let us put our trust and confidence in Him.
