Seek the Lord
Have you ever expended a tremendous amount of effort seeking something? Perhaps you looked everywhere for car keys you’d misplaced; you looked high and low—under couch cushions, in the refrigerator, anyplace that came to mind until you found them… Perhaps you’ve sought after a desired item—a new gadget, piece or part, article of clothing, etc. You’ve searched stores in-person and on-line, asked friends where to find that item, done research, and so on… Perhaps you’ve even searched social media to find an old friend, trying every avenue and connection you could until you found them…
When it is the desire of our heart, there really is no limit to how much time and energy we are willing to expend to seek out that which we want or long for. The ability to seek is a natural and necessary skill God has placed in each of us, but it does have a bigger and ultimate purpose. We were meant to seek, to search and to find, but so often we miss it, we miss using it where it really counts…
“The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God.” Psalm 14:2 “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” Psalm 14:1a “But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD; I say, ‘You are my God.’” Psalm 31:14 “O my soul, you have said to the LORD, ‘You are my Lord, my goodness is nothing apart from You.’” Psalm 16:2 “When You said, ‘Seek My face,’ my heart said to You, ‘Your face, LORD, I will seek.’” Psalm 27:8 “As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.” Psalm 17:15
Our pursuit of God is paramount. It should be more desirable to seek Him, His righteousness, His face, His goodness, than anything we could possibly set our hearts on. It is more important to seek Him, search for Him, and to find Him than anything else we long for, and here is something interesting David says about seeking, “Those who seek Him will praise the LORD…” Psalm 22:26b “Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You…” Psalm 40:16a Seeking is a joyful thing! When we seek the Lord, it will bring rejoicing and gladness, and our hearts will be full of praise for Him. Wow! That’s awesome!
Today, seek the Lord; search for Him… You will find Him. He wants to be found by you. He loves you. His desire is for you. Let your desire be for Him and let your praise, rejoicing and gladness be found in Him today.
