Signs Reveal His Intentions
One morning a few days ago, as I walked to my classroom, I heard the beautiful squawking of a goose from above. My heart lit with excitement as I looked up into the sky and beheld a lovely “V” shaped team of geese. The squawk, now a honking chorus, filled the air as the team soared by happily announcing themselves. My joy bubbled forth. But the joy doubled as I realized what it meant–it was a sign! The geese are coming home! Spring is on its way!
That evening I was in the front yard. I lifted my head and gazed at the barren branches of the trees above. As I scrutinized their crooked arms, I noticed tiny little spots protruding from the bark. A thrill of excitement! Buds! Another sign. And as I contemplated the two signs, I realized there had been even another–the recent increase in temperature. The sun-kissed afternoons, wrapped in soft, cool breezes… When I considered these things, it made it easy to interpret the time, the season.
In the Gospels, Jesus makes it clear that there are signs all around us that we should be able to interpret–not just weather…or seasons…but His movement here on Earth: “The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven. He replied, ‘When evening comes, you say, “It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,” and in the morning, “Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.” You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.’ Jesus then left them and went away.” Matthew 16:1-4
When God is at work, it is clear. There are signs He puts into place that reveal His intentions. We are to be paying attention and rightly discerning His movement. If we don’t, we may miss out on blessings of potentially great proportions. So…what is God doing in the Four Corners area? San Juan County? First Baptist Church Aztec? He’s bringing change, renewal, redemption, and if I may…REVIVAL! That’s exciting!
Today, prepare your hearts. God is bringing salvation to the unbeliever and repentance to the saved. Glory be to God!
