Total Repair, Healing, and Compliance with the Word
I really enjoy watching home renovation shows on TV. I love seeing the experts take something less than appealing and transform it into a dream. It’s startling, though, how often during the renovation process they find major issues behind the walls or under the floor of seemingly innocent spaces—a cracking foundation, an exploded sewer line, termites, flooding, you name it! Ironically, the owners seem put-out, dreading the additional investment. Although issues that could potentially compromise the integrity of the house have been identified, they appear to be more concerned about updating the aesthetic. And yet, can you imagine what would happen if they did not address the underlying issues? It would only be a matter of time before these things would surface and corrupt the whole structure.
I believe we do the same. We are all for renovating and improving the aesthetic of our life, but we are less than thrilled when we hear the Lord say, “There are still foundation issues in your heart; termites in your marriage; sewage in your mind.” We would like to push these things aside and ask the Lord to sign-off on the situations, but how can He? “Well, I forgave so-and-so…mostly.” “I don’t gossip…as often as I used to.” “I only gave the silent treatment for one day when I got angry this time…it used to be more.” The Holy Spirit, our site inspector, will never give the okay to move on from an unfinished job. He will lead us to a place of conviction and then to total repair, total healing, and total compliance with the Word of God.
David says: “Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. They will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.” Psalm 24:3-6
In other words, humbly and desperately seeking the heart of God, followed by complete and utter repentance, can pave the way to fixing and building. Getting rid of the corruption in our soul is paramount and following up by aligning ourselves to the precepts of God is essential.
Today, let’s humble ourselves, seek God, genuinely repent and align ourselves to His Word completely.
